Budget Movers

Budget movers can get you from point A to point B in less time and for less money than the big movers. Well, that is if you plan everything just right for yourself. When you contact movers and you find out that your simple one bedroom may cost $1000 to transport down the block, or into the city, then you may be left wondering if you have any other options. While exploring budget movers is an option, realize that you may have to pick up some of the slack and perform a great many tasks alone (or with the help of friends), especially if trans ocean movers isn't an option.

For instance, you have full service movers on the opposite end of the spectrum to budget movers. They may offer up such luxuries as boxes, packing tape, packing materials, and professionals who pack your belongings. Of course, on a budget you make it a point to go to the liquor store, grocers, and book sellers, to find out if they have boxes for free. Buy some packing tape for a few dollars, and find out from those same retailers who provided the boxes if they will also allow you to keep the packing material that came with their goods (in the boxes).

Free Packing Paper and Boxes

Check out stores that sells shoes, because not only are the boxes often stuffed with paper, but the shoes also have excessive amounts of paper that get tossed out daily. They would be more than happy to provide the paper for you, because it saves them from having to recycle it. The next matter that a full service mover will cover is the process of packing. If you have a lot of glass ware and breakable or delicate items, then heed this advice.

Even if you are on a budget, you can pack your belongings yourself without breaking everything. Take that tissue paper from the shoe boxes, and you will wrap your breakables until they have a nice soft layer around them. Tape the paper into place, to avoid shifting and breakage when you transport your items. Make it a point not only to pack the items that you use least first, but perform your packing from room to room. Label all of the boxes in big, easy to read writing so you know what room they occupy. Also write the contents of the boxes, such as: Kitchen, Mugs. The reason that full service movers charge so much to pack is because they have to put like weight items in together, and wrap everything carefully. It is time consuming, but well worth the care to prevent breakage, on a budget.

If you were to contact large movers who charge more money, they may also take apart all of your furniture for you, and the movers would get it not only to the door, but transport it onto and then off of the truck. If you are hiring budget movers, you may want to find out if they charge extra for the time they may spend winding around corners, and dismantling and re-assembling your furnishings. You may be able to provide this service for yourself rather than relying on the budget movers for this level of work. If it saves you money, and allows you to get through the process within your budget, then try it.

Curbside Services and Trucks

If you are hiring budget movers, there are some duties that they will perform, such as ensuring that your belongings get onto and off of the truck safely and securely. Also, make sure that when you are on a budget, that you do not forgo quality. It is still essential that whomever you entrust with your belongings is bonded and insured. You need to make sure that while they charge you a monetary value within your budget, that they do not have police records that include theft. Make sure they have an active insurance policy as well. Accidents may be unavoidable, but insurance can help save the day.

When you are looking at budget movers, also consider whether you would prefer to do it yourself. You may be able to pack, load the truck, and then rent a truck for a few hours. Tally up a comparison of how much it would cost for you to rent a truck as compared to hiring budget movers. Just make sure that if you choose to rent your own truck that you first make sure that your auto insurance or the rental insurance will cover your belongings. Of course, you will want to check with your renters or homeowners policy as well before taking on this responsibility. If you have friends that will be helping, it is best if you keep them away from family heirlooms, instead opting to do it yourself. Or, compare prices and hire the best budget movers available.
